The Challenge
Despite having immense talent and drive, autistic adults often face the lowest employment rates in the developmental disability community. Traditional “pre-vocational” training models don’t always translate into real-world success.
The Solution: The IPS-AUT Study
We are one of a select group of agencies implementing the Individual Placement and Support (IPS) model, specifically adapted for autism. This evidence-based approach flips the traditional model on its head:
-
Focus on Strengths: We don’t spend years “getting ready” to work. We help participants find jobs based on their unique interests and skills immediately.
-
Competitive Wages: Every job placement is a Competitive Integrated Employment (CIE) position—meaning our participants work in the community at the same wage as their neurotypical peers.
-
Research-Backed Support: Our team receives direct training and clinical guidance from UC Davis researchers to provide specialized 1:1 coaching that addresses the specific social and executive function needs of autistic employees.
Our Goal
Through this study, Milestones is helping to prove that with the right support model, autistic adults can thrive in meaningful, high-wage careers. We aren’t just helping people find jobs; we are helping redefine what is possible for neurodivergent professionals in the North Bay.
